BHUBANESWAR: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhubaneswar on Friday announced two new degree courses for its next academic session.
Both Fashion Communication and Fashion courses are of four-year duration with each having 36 seats. Six seats would be reserved for the students of the State.
While the Fashion Communication course is aimed at imparting knowledge about media industry, Bachelor in Fashion would give the students an in-depth perspective on Indian handicraft.
The NIFT currently offers different courses including Bachelor in Design and Bachelor in Textile Design.
The new courses were announced during the convocation of 2014 batch. Textile Committee secretary P Nayak, noted painter Kailash Chandra Meher and Design Director of Jaipur Rugs Kavita Chaudhary attended the convocation.
NIFT Director PK Gera spoke on the details of Integrated Skill Development Scheme to be launched by the State Government in collaboration with the Centre.
While the Centre will provide 75 per cent of the funds, the State will contribute 25 per cent.
Vocational training would be provided to the rural youth under the new project which would also supervise their placement in local industries.
On the occasion, Student of the Year awards was given to AS Rathore of the graduating batch while Ekta Saha was presented the NIFT Best Academic Performance award.
Besides, six other graduating students were presented awards in different categories.
