ATLANTA–The America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards took place this past Friday, during the Atlanta International Area Rug Market. Recognizing the best design in the industry, the awards were held this time at the Hyatt Regency. Jeff Portman, chief operating officer of AmericasMart, kicked off the evening, and then former AmericasMart executive Chas Sydney again hosted the event.
In the handhooked/handtufted category, for rugs selling from $0-8 per square foot, Capel Rugs won for a Kevin O’Brien design introduced last fall. In the $8.01-16 per square foot group, Jaipur won the first of two awards that evening.
This Kevin O’Brien design from Capel won an America’s Magnificent Carpet Award.
In the handknotted/flatweave category, Marcella Fine Rugs won for rugs from $0-30 per square foot, Loloi won for rugs from $30-50 per square foot, F.J. Kashanian for rugs from $50.01-$100 and Anadol Rug for rugs over $100.01 per square foot.
In the machine-made category, Oriental Weavers of America won in the $0-400 group, while Nourison won in the over $400 group.
In the outdoor category, Couristan received the award. And Jaipur won its second award in the licensing category.
The judges for the awards this year were Annette Joseph, an expert on entertaining, cooking and styling who regularly appears on The Today Show; interior designer Darcy Adler and Sharian Garner of Oriental rug dealer Sharian Rugs.
