Not only you but even your beautiful carpet bears the brunt of a party at home. With someone inevitably spilling food or drinks on the rug, you can find your patience being stretched. But baby wipes can help you remove those stains with ease.
According to Yogesh Chaudhary, director, Jaipur Rugs, one of the oldest rugs brands in India, baby wipes are the best cleaning materials for a carpet. He suggests that it's better to vacuum clean the carpet soon after the party and then, using baby wipes on areas where food has spilt. If it's drinks or water, then it's better to use a blotting paper.
However, wine spill can have grave consequences. Since wine contains strong colours, if left untended it can react with the wool proteins in the carpet. "You need to immediately blot it out and wipe it off with baby wipe or a cloth. If you leave it untended then it becomes very difficult to remove the stain," says Chaudhary, who has four carpets in his bedroom alone.
Chaudhary says that giving carpets to dry cleaners to remove stains is a mistake. "They (dry cleaners) mess up carpets as they are not used to handling them. They also use different chemicals. Instead, you need professional care from carpet cleaners."
He also suggests spraying anti-odours available in the market on carpets if they emits a musty odour. The other alternative is to lay the carpet in sun, upside down, and beat it with a stick.
